Unmonitized Feeds!

Blog monitization is important in today's world. Every company out there is out to cover you for even moving a finger on the web. Everything is incentivized or ready to be monitized. But looking out at my recent earning reports, I have come to realise that one of the only things that remain to be monitized is of course the RSS feeds. I mean absolutely everything has been hampered and tampered with except the feeds.

This is sad because some of the world's biggest blogs have over 40,000 to 70,000 feed readers. That means everytime a blog posting is made, over 70,000 impressions of that particular feed is practically garunteed! That also means, its that much easier to reach the loyal readers as they would have subscribed to the blog postings if they were that loyal. Especially with most bloggers blogging at least 2 - 3 posts a day, that means over 50,000 pageviews of that feed would be syndicated in a manner only RSS can. What is surprising is that only a couple have attempted to monitize the feeds on blogs and none have been successful at it as well. I mean a popular blogger like John Chow earns only $12 from his blog through feeds at feedburner and he has over 26,000 readers. Just goes to show how much work is needed to be done in this particular arena.

Personally, I think the innovation of this technology is so recent and is taken so lightly that most companies dismiss the idea totally. This is great for getting exposure on mass bloggers. Unfortunately, there will be a while before a phoenix will rise from the ashes in this area. Lets hope feedburner does something about the lack of advertisements and prove to be a success.
